5.52

[On] the treatise's: 'The former non-conception absorption ... entering it through resolve': fifth, this explains the difference in practitioners. There are three reasons why it is not attained by ordinary beings: first, fear of annihilation; second, it can be induced only by the power of the noble path; third, entering it through the resolve that it is nirvāṇa in the present life (dṛṣṭadharmadharmatānirvāṇa), having the ideation of nirvāṇa in distant preparatory application and the ideation of calming in immediate preparatory application.
