The Śāstra says: "How is it further known ... because intermediate existence arises." The third proves that the places have no spatial location. Attaining the four types of concentration, they are reborn in the same place; therefore, one knows that the four formless rebirths have no distinct places. Moreover, attaining the four concentrations, the nine places of the desire realm and the sixteen places of the form realm differ; if one is born into the formless realm, all are born at the place of dying in the desire or form realm. Therefore, one knows that apart from the two realms there are no other places. When dying from those four heavenly places and being born into a lower realm, intermediate existence appears right at the previous place of death and rebirth, with consciousness transmitting; therefore, one knows that they do not come from another place.
