釋曰：識謂各了別者，明識蘊也。了別名識，此有六種。了別不同，故名為各。謂初眼識了色，乃至意識了法。

The commentary says: "Consciousness refers to individual discernment" clarifies the aggregate of consciousness. Discernment is called consciousness; this has six kinds. Because their discernments differ, it says "individual": namely, the first, eye-consciousness, discerns visible forms, up to mental consciousness discerning dharmas.
