As for 'or according to the order of their physical bases': 'Bases' refers to the physical locations upon which the six faculties depend. The order of the faculties is distinguished according to the higher or lower positions of their physical supports. That is, the support of the eye occupies the highest position; next are the ear, nose, and tongue; the body mostly occupies a lower position; and the mind has no spatial location, though some arise relying upon the physical faculties, and so it is stated last. Explanation: This means that the six classes of consciousness are collectively named 'mind'; the five consciousnesses such as the eye arise relying upon the five physical faculties, not the sixth consciousness; hence it says 'some arise relying upon the physical faculties'.
