10.12

與見相應故者，破彼轉救，謂餘師言：「若爾，非見惡慧應許是無明，如貪等相應慧是非見惡慧也。既非是見，應是無明。」為破此救故，言與見相應故，謂此無明與見相應故，知無明不可是慧。無明若慧，豈有二慧共相應耶？既許無明與見相應，故知無明不是慧也。

"Because it is associated with views": this refutes their further defense. That is, the other masters say: "If so, bad wisdom that is not a view should be admitted to be ignorance, just as the wisdom associated with greed and so forth is bad wisdom that is not a view. Since it is not a view, it should be ignorance." To refute this defense, he says, "Because it is associated with views." That is, since this ignorance is associated with views, we know that ignorance cannot be wisdom. If ignorance were wisdom, how could two wisdoms be mutually associated? Since it is admitted that ignorance is associated with views, we know that ignorance is not wisdom.
