釋曰：初兩句明欲界，次四句明色界，後四句明無色界。欲緣欲十八者，上欲明繫十八，下欲明緣境十八，謂欲界繫具足十八，緣欲界境其數亦然。

Explanation: the first two lines explain the desire realm; the next four lines explain the form realm; the final four lines explain the formless realm. Regarding "the desire [realm has] eighteen cognizing the desire [realm]": the upper "desire" explains the eighteen bound to that realm, and the lower "desire" explains the eighteen objects cognized; that is, the desire-realm bond fully possesses eighteen, and cognizing desire-realm objects has the same number.
