業如有糠米者，如米有糠能生芽等，業有煩惱能招異熟。業如草藥者，如諸草藥果熟為後邊，業果熟已更不招異熟。業如華者，如華於果為生近因，業為近因能生異熟。

'Karma is like grain with husks': just as grain with husks can produce sprouts and so on, karma possessing defilements can bring about maturation. 'Karma is like medicinal herbs': just as with medicinal herbs their fruit's ripening is the end, once the fruit of karma has ripened, it no longer brings about maturation. 'Karma is like flowers': just as a flower is the proximate cause for the birth of fruit, karma is the proximate cause capable of producing maturation.
