非總於相續者，謂誓不言「我總於一切有情相續離非梵行。」故於有情得離邪行戒，不得離非梵行戒，故後娶妻妾，非毀犯前戒。

"Not universally with respect to the continuum" means that the vow did not say, "With respect to the continuums of all sentient beings universally, I will abstain from unchaste conduct." Therefore, with respect to sentient beings, one obtains the precept of abstaining from misconduct, but does not obtain the precept of abstaining from unchaste conduct; hence, subsequently marrying wives and concubines does not violate the former precepts.
