實體唯有四者，明體也。名雖有八，實體唯四：一苾芻、二勤策、三近事、四近住。所以然者，離苾芻戒無別苾芻尼律儀，離勤策戒無別正學、勤策女律儀，離近事戒無別近事女律儀，故體唯四。

"Its actual entity is only four" clarifies the entity. Although there are eight names, the actual entities are only four: first, bhikṣu; second, novice; third, lay follower; fourth, one-day observor. Why is this so? Apart from the bhikṣu precepts there is no separate bhikṣuṇī discipline; apart from the novice precepts there are no separate probationer or novice nun disciplines; apart from the lay male precepts there is no separate lay female discipline; therefore, the entities are only four.
