且初約世明成就者，論云：「今應思擇，表及無表誰成就何？齊何時分（問也）？且辨成無表律儀不律儀。」頌曰（答也，表在後文明也，此唯明無表，故言且也）：
First, regarding explaining possession in terms of the [three] times, the treatise says: 'Now one should investigate: regarding vijñapti and avijñapti, who possesses what, and for how long? (a question). First, let us analyze possessing the avijñapti of restraint and non-restraint.' The verse says (as an answer; vijñapti will be explained in later text; here it explains only avijñapti, hence it says 'first'):
