14.48

住定道成中者，住謂現住，中謂現在，過未中故。正在定中，說名為住。若在觀位，成現在戒，名為成中。若出觀時，不成現在，以定道戒隨心轉故。

'Abiding in absorption and the path, one possesses the intermediate': 'abiding' refers to presently abiding; 'intermediate' means the present, being between the past and future. When currently inside absorption, one is said to 'abide'. When in the stage of contemplation, one possesses the present precepts, which is called 'possessing the intermediate'. When emerging from contemplation, one does not possess the present, because the precepts of absorption and the path evolve conforming to the mind.
