'Relinquishing the noble [dharmas] is through obtaining the fruit, refining the faculties, and falling away' explains relinquishing the noble [dharmas] through three conditions. 1. Through obtaining the fruit: if one obtains a subsequent fruit, one relinquishes the path of the prior fruit and the path of progress toward it. 2. Through refining the faculties: that is, when transforming the faculties, one relinquishes the path of dull faculties. 3. Through falling away: falling away from the path of the fruit and the path of the superior fruit; the path of progress is called the path of the superior fruit because it tends toward the superior fruit. This passage generally explains relinquishing untainted dharmas; because vows follow the dharmas, relinquishing untainted vows is also identical with the above three conditions.
