18.10

釋曰：僧破不和合者，謂僧破體是不和合性，此不和合於和合上非得為體。謂僧未破，眾共和合，許有聖道能得入聖。僧被破已，失和合性，於和合上有非得生，名不和合。故不和合性是和合上非得為體。

Explanation: "The schism of the Saṅgha is disharmony" means that the essence of the schism of the Saṅgha is the nature of disharmony. This disharmony has non-attainment (aprāpti) as its essence with respect to harmony. That is, when the Saṅgha is not yet split, the community is harmonious together, and it is conceded that there is the noble path whereby one can enter into nobility. Once the Saṅgha has been split, the nature of harmony is lost, and a non-attainment arises with respect to harmony, which is called disharmony. Therefore, the nature of disharmony has non-attainment as its essence with respect to harmony.
