Explanation: There are five causes here. "Due to deliberate consideration" is the first cause; this word "due to" applies down through both lines. Performing karma with deliberate consideration: the karma is called accumulated. Doing it with sudden, impulsive thought is merely called performed. "Due to completion" is the second cause. Among the ten karmapathas, either through one karma alone one immediately falls into an evil destiny, or one does not fall through one karma but only falls through two karmas, and so on up to not falling through nine but only falling into an evil destiny through ten karmas; as far as falling into an evil destiny, it is called completion. This completed karma is called accumulated; when not yet completed, it is merely called performed. "Due to the absence of remorse and antidote" is the third cause. When one performs evil and does not regret it later, that is called absence of remorse; when one performs evil and does not confess and cleanse it, that is called absence of antidote; this is called accumulated. If one is able to regret it and confess and cleanse it, it is merely called performed. "Due to having an accompaniment" is the fourth cause: namely, performing unwholesomeness having unwholesomeness as an accompaniment is called accumulated; lacking unwholesome accompaniment is merely called performed. "Due to having ripening" is the fifth cause: namely, performing evil karma that definitely induces ripening is called accumulated; not bringing about ripening is merely called performed. For wholesomeness, the reversal of the above should be known.
