18.15

釋曰：初兩句明罪體，次一句明處時，後一句明苦增。能破者唯成，此虛誑語罪者，能破僧者，提婆達多成破僧罪，誑語為性，即破僧俱生語表、無表為此罪體。

Explanation: The first two lines explain the essence of the sin, the next line explains the place and time, and the last line explains the increase in suffering. "The one who splits attains only this sin of false speech": the one who splits the Saṅgha, Devadatta, attains the sin of splitting the Saṅgha, which has false speech as its nature. That is, the vocal intimation (vijñapti) and non-intimation (avijñapti) born simultaneously with splitting the Saṅgha constitute the essence of this sin.
