'The next three are all of their own level': 'the next three' refers to the three: nose, tongue, and body; because they follow the eye and ear, they are called the next three. Namely, the four kinds of nose faculty, nose-consciousness, fragrance, and body; the four kinds of tongue faculty, tongue-consciousness, taste, and body; and the three kinds of body faculty, body-consciousness, and tangible object: when viewed in relation to one another, all are entirely of their own level. This is because these three apprehend contiguous objects, and because the two consciousnesses of nose and tongue exist only in the desire realm. Only the single body-consciousness, in relation to the body and tangible objects, encompasses both its own and lower levels, differing slightly from the preceding.
