"In cultivation, one possesses six, one, or two": "cultivation" means dwelling in the stage of the path of cultivation. From subsequent knowledge of the path up to not having yet separated from desire-realm defilement, one possesses six comprehensive knowledges; and if one who is free from desire falls back, they also possess six comprehensive knowledges. When entirely free from desire-realm defilement, while attachment to form is not yet exhausted, one possesses one comprehensive knowledge, namely [that of] what is conducive to the lower realms. Or, if one who previously separated from desire enters the path of seeing, upon reaching subsequent knowledge of the path and before giving rise to the path of the superior fruit of the exhaustion of attachment to form, one also possesses one, namely [that of] what is conducive to the lower realms. Moreover, when falling back from the exhaustion of attachment to form by giving rise to the entanglements of form, or when falling back from the stage of the non-learner by giving rise to the entanglements of form, one also possesses the one [comprehensive knowledge of] what is conducive to the lower realms. If attachment to form is completely exhausted, one possesses two comprehensive knowledges, namely [those of] what is conducive to the lower realms and the exhaustion of attachment to form. Or, if one who previously separated from attachment to form enters the path of seeing, after subsequent knowledge of the path gives rise to the path of the superior fruit of the exhaustion of attachment to form, up until before entirely separating from formless attachment, one possesses two: what is conducive to the lower realms and the exhaustion of attachment to form. When falling back from the stage of the non-learner by giving rise to the entanglements of the formless, one also possesses two: what is conducive to the lower realms and the exhaustion of attachment to form.
