21.39

釋曰：纏中無慚、無愧、睡眠、惛沈、掉舉，此五與見惑相應是見所斷，與修惑相應是修所斷。餘謂嫉、慳、忿、覆、悔及煩惱六垢，此之十一自在起故，唯修所斷，不隨他惑，自力而起，唯與無明共相應故，名為自在。

Explanation: Among the entanglements, shamelessness, non-dread, sleep, torpor, and restlessness: when these five are associated with defilements [abandoned by] seeing, they are abandoned by seeing; when associated with defilements [abandoned by] cultivation, they are abandoned by cultivation. 'The rest' refers to envy, avarice, wrath, hypocrisy, regret, and the six stains of defilement. Because these eleven arise independently, they are abandoned only by cultivation. Not following other defilements, they arise by their own force and are associated solely with ignorance; therefore they are called 'independent.'
