As for 'through abandoning their cognizing subjects', this is the second cause; this is called abandonment through abandoning their cognizing subjects. It refers to abandoning [the afflictions with] objects of other planes by seeing suffering and the origin, because the afflictions with objects of one's own plane take as their objects the afflictions with objects of other planes: the afflictions with objects of other planes are the objective spheres cognized, and the afflictions with objects of one's own plane are the cognizing minds. When the afflictions with objects of one's own plane are abandoned, those afflictions with objects of other planes are abandoned along with them, which is called abandonment through abandoning their cognizing subjects. The words 'cognizing subjects' refer precisely to those [afflictions with] objects of one's own plane.
