"Second, through abandonment of that which cognizes them... because they are abandoned in consequence": Second, abandonment through abandonment of that which cognizes them. That is to say, [afflictions] abandoned by seeing suffering and origination that condition other realms are the cognitive objects. Because the afflictions conditioning their own realm can take as their cognitive objects those afflictions conditioning other realms, if that which cognizes is abandoned, those afflictions that are their cognitive objects are also abandoned in consequence. Although their objects are different, they can nevertheless serve as causes. Thus, the afflictions conditioning their own realm have power with respect to them; relying on this power, the afflictions conditioning other realms are able to take the higher realms as their objects. Just as a frail and ill person leans upon a pillar to look upward: when the pillar breaks, he falls down along with it.
