As for "next arises the summit likewise": the cultivation of the root of goodness of warmth has inferior, middling, and superior grades; when reaching fulfillment, a root of goodness arises, which is named the 'dharma of the summit' (mūrdhan). It also contemplates the four truths and cultivates the sixteen modes, being identical to the preceding stage of warmth; hence it says 'likewise'. The two roots of goodness of warmth and summit are both called 'fluctuating goods' (cala-kuśala), because they can regress and fluctuate. Among the fluctuating roots of goodness, the summit is supreme, like a person's crown; hence it is named the 'dharma of the summit'. Furthermore, the stage of patience is advancement, while the stage of warmth is regression; this summit is at the boundary between advancement and regression, like a mountain peak; hence it is named 'summit'.
