23.40

釋曰：煗位雖退，又斷善根，造無間業，墮三惡趣而無久流轉，必至涅槃故。若得頂法，雖有退等，必不斷善。若得忍法，雖命終捨而無有退，不墮惡趣。若下忍位，於二惡趣得非擇滅。若至上忍，於卵、濕生及無想天、北俱盧、大梵王處，并扇搋、半擇迦、二形身及第八有等，並見所斷惑，於此生處身有惑中得非擇滅，以上忍位必入見道，得成聖果，故於卵等得非擇滅。若見斷惑，雖即未斷，以必不起故，得非擇滅也。世第一法雖是異生，能起無間入正性離生，正性離生者，見道名也。

The commentary says: Although one in the stage of Heat retrogresses, cuts off the roots of goodness, creates the unmediated karmas, and falls into the three bad destinies, one will not undergo long transmigration, because one will definitely reach nirvāṇa. If one attains the summit dharma, although there is retrogression and the like, one will definitely not cut off roots of goodness. If one attains the dharma of Acceptance, although it is relinquished at the end of life, there is no retrogression, and one does not fall into bad destinies. If in the lower stage of Acceptance, one attains non-analytical cessation regarding the two bad destinies. If reaching higher Acceptance, one attains non-analytical cessation regarding egg-birth, moisture-birth, the gods of non-conception, Uttarakuru, the realm of the Great Brahmā King, as well as the bodies of the ṣaṇḍha, the paṇḍaka, the double-sexed, and the eighth existence and so forth, together with the defilements to be abandoned by seeing. In these birthplaces, bodies, existences, and defilements, one attains non-analytical cessation, because one in the stage of higher Acceptance will definitely enter the path of seeing and achieve the noble fruition; hence, one attains non-analytical cessation regarding egg-birth and the rest. As for the defilements to be abandoned by seeing, although they are not yet severed, because they definitely will not arise, one attains non-analytical cessation. Although the supreme mundane dharma still belongs to an ordinary being, it can unmediatedly give rise to entrance into the detachment from rebirth of the correct nature. "Detachment from rebirth of the correct nature" is a name for the path of seeing.
