Regarding 'Having all defilements of cultivation, or having abandoned one to five, one enters upon the first fruit': these two noble beings are established into three enterers in the stage of the path of seeing, and this line of verse is the first enterer. That is to say, previously not having abandoned defilements of cultivation through the mundane path, one is called 'having all defilements of cultivation'; this is termed a fully bound person. 'Having abandoned one to five, one enters upon': in the prior stage of an ordinary person, having abandoned from one to five categories of defilements of cultivation through the contaminated path, these make five persons; including the previous fully bound person, they make six persons. When these six persons reach the path of seeing, they are called enterers upon the first fruit, because they tend toward the fruit of stream-enterer.
