24.34

雜修靜慮總有三緣：一、為受生，生淨居故；二、為現樂，受法樂故；三、為遮止，起煩惱退。若不還修，由前三緣；若羅漢修，除受生一。

The mixed cultivation of dhyāna has three conditions in total: 1. for taking birth, because one is to be born in the Śuddhāvāsa heavens; 2. for happiness in the present, because one experiences the joy of the Dharma; and 3. for warding off, preventing the falling back caused by defilements arising. If an anāgāmin cultivates it, it is due to the previous three conditions; if an arhat cultivates it, the one of taking birth is excluded.
