"The sharp have the middle and the last": "the sharp" refers to the unshakeable arhat, who has the middle and latter two kinds of falling away—the middle being falling away from what is yet unobtained, and the latter being falling away from enjoyment. Because of sharp faculties, there is no falling away from what has been obtained. "The dull have three": "the dull" refers to the five beginning with falling-away dharma, who possess all three kinds of falling away. When the sūtra says that one of unshakeable dharma falls away from abiding in ease in the present life, this is said in terms of falling away from enjoyment, not the other two kinds of falling away; hence there is no [actual] falling away.
