'All four are exclusively uncontaminated': The four kinds of confirmed clarity are exclusively uncontaminated dharmas, because contaminated dharmas are not confirmed clarity. Question: "Relying on what meaning is the name 'confirmed clarity' established?" Answer: "Because one directly realizes the principle of the four truths, it is called 'confirmed'; because there is right faith in the Three Jewels and sublime morality, it is called 'clarity'. Departing from the defilement of disbelief, faith is called clarity. Departing from the defilement of broken morality, morality is called clarity. Because clarity is attained through direct realization, the name 'confirmed clarity' is established. As for the sequence of these four: faith in the Buddha is like [faith in] a good physician; faith in the Dharma is like [faith in] good medicine; faith in the Saṅgha is like [faith in] a caretaker of the sick. Because the mind of faith is pure, noble morality is produced; therefore morality is spoken of as the fourth. One must possess the preceding faith for this morality to appear, just as illness is eliminated only when meeting these three conditions."
