人中都無生得通者，餘皆容有，於地獄趣初受生時，有生得他心智及宿住智，知過去等，苦受逼已，更無所知。若修得通，唯人天趣，能入定故。生得除人，通餘四趣，皆有生得。呪、藥二種，通人、天、鬼趣。占相唯人也。

Among humans, there are none who possess supernormal powers acquired by birth; in the other [destinies], they are all admissible. In the hell destiny, when first taking rebirth, beings possess knowledge of others' minds and knowledge of past lives acquired by birth, knowing the past and so forth; once oppressed by painful sensations, they know nothing more. As for supernormal powers acquired by cultivation, they exist only in the human and deva destinies, because they can enter meditative absorption. As for those acquired by birth, excluding humans, they extend to the other four destinies, all of which possess them by birth. The two kinds—incantation and medicine—extend to the human, deva, and ghost destinies. Divination is found only among humans.
