'An elephant and so forth increases tenfold seven times' clarifies the amount of Nārāyaṇa's strength. The seven strengths of an elephant and so forth increase tenfold each time: the strength of ten ordinary elephants equals the strength of one gandhahastin; the strength of ten gandhahastins equals the strength of one Mahānagna (translated here as the great naked deity); the strength of ten Mahānagnas equals the strength of one Praskandin (translated here as the deity of superior aggregates); the strength of ten Praskandins equals the strength of one Varaṅga (translated here as the deity of exquisite limbs); the strength of ten Varaṅgas equals the strength of one Cāṇūra (translated here as the grasping deity); the strength of ten Cāṇūras equals the strength of one Nārāyaṇa. Therefore, the seven [strengths of an] elephant and so forth increasing tenfold each time is called the strength of Nārāyaṇa.
