'Relying on five and two stages [respectively]': unimpeded knowledge regarding teachings relies generally on five stages, namely the desire realm and the four dhyānas, because in the formless realm there are no names and so forth. Unimpeded knowledge regarding expressions relies only on two stages, namely the desire realm and the first dhyāna, because above the second dhyāna there is no investigation or reflection.
