'Meaning is sixteen, eloquence is nine': unimpeded knowledge regarding meanings has either ten cognitions or six cognitions as its nature. That is, if all phenomena are called 'meanings', it has the ten cognitions as its nature; if only nirvāṇa is called 'meaning', it has six cognitions as its nature, as explained under the supernormal knowledge of the destruction of outflows. Unimpeded knowledge regarding eloquence has nine cognitions as its nature, excluding only the cognition of cessation, because unimpeded eloquence takes speech and the path as its object.
