28.12

四蘊者，然助伴體唯有四蘊，彼無色故，除色蘊也。離下地者，辨差別也。雖一境性體相無差別，離下地生，故分四種：離第四靜慮生立空無邊處名，離空處生立識無邊處，離識處生立無所有處，離無所有處生立非想非非想處。

Regarding "four aggregates": their attendant nature consists solely of four aggregates; because there is no form there, the aggregate of form is excluded. Regarding "detached from a lower stage": this analyzes their distinction. Although the intrinsic characteristic of one-pointedness of mind has no distinction, because they arise through detachment from a lower stage, they are divided into four kinds: arising from detachment from the fourth dhyāna establishes the name 'stage of boundless space'; arising from detachment from the stage of [boundless] space establishes 'stage of boundless consciousness'; arising from detachment from the stage of consciousness establishes 'stage of nothingness'; arising from detachment from the stage of nothingness establishes 'stage of neither-notion-nor-non-notion.'
