於同住雜染，清淨增上故者，取下兩句釋此二句。應知命根於眾同分住有增上用，應知五受於雜染法有增上用，故經云：「於樂受貪隨增，於苦受瞋隨增，於捨受癡隨增。」應知信等，於清淨法有增上用。由信等五分於煖、頂位伏諸煩惱，引聖道故。言應知者，勸許一一各能為根。

'Because of predominance in abiding together, defilement, and purification': taking the lower two lines explains these two lines. One should know that the life indriya has a predominant function in the abiding of the nikāyasabhāga; one should know that the five feelings have a predominant function in defiled phenomena, for a sūtra says: 'With pleasant feeling, lust increases; with painful feeling, anger increases; with feeling of equanimity, delusion increases.' One should know that faith and the rest have a predominant function in purified phenomena. Because the five factors of faith and the rest subdue the defilements in the stages of Heat and Summits, and lead to the noble path. Saying 'one should know' encourages accepting that each and every one can serve as an indriya.
