3.74

色六上唯命者，色謂色界，初得六根，如欲界中無形者說。上唯命者，上謂無色，勝下二界名之為上。一則定勝，無色因也；二者生勝，無色果也。初得一根，謂唯命也。

'In form, six; in the higher, only life': 'form' means the form realm, where one initially obtains six faculties, as explained for the sexless beings in the desire realm. 'In the higher, only life': 'the higher' refers to the formless realm; being superior to the two lower realms, it is called 'the higher'. First, it is superior in meditation, which is the cause of the formless realm; second, it is superior in rebirth, which is the fruit of the formless realm. Initially, one obtains a single faculty, namely only life.
