"Celestial heads point upward, three are horizontal, hell-dwellers' heads go downward": this is the ninth topic, on the manner of movement. This means that the celestial intermediate existence ascends straight up with its head erect, like rising from a seated position. The movement of the intermediate existences of humans, ghosts, and animals is like that of humans and so forth. The intermediate existence of hell has its head down and feet up. Thus a verse says: "Falling headlong into hell, / Feet up and head pointing down, / Due to reviling the ṛṣis / Who delight in tranquility and practice austerities." What has been discussed above is based on dying among humans and being reborn back in the human destiny. If extended across other destinies, the manner of movement is variable. Thus the Vibhāṣā says: "If dying in hell and reborn back in hell, it is not necessarily head down and feet up. If dying among celestials and reborn back among celestials, it is not necessarily head up and feet down. If dying in hell and being reborn in the human destiny, it should ascend head upward. If dying among celestials and being reborn in the human destiny, it should go head downward."
