六處前名色者，從結生後，六處生前，中間諸位所有五蘊總稱名色。中間諸位者，即是胎中從羯羅藍至鉢羅奢佉五位也。論云：「此中應說四處生前，而言六者，據滿立故（四處，除身、意也）。」

"Prior to the six sense spheres is name-and-form": after rebirth-linking and before the arising of the six sense spheres, all the five skandhas during the intermediate stages are collectively called name-and-form. "Intermediate stages" refers to the five stages in the womb from kalala up to praśākhā. The treatise says: "Here, one should say 'prior to the arising of the four spheres'; stating 'six' is established on the basis of completion (the four spheres exclude the body and the mind faculties)."
