"The undefiled follows the place of rebirth" explains the primary elements upon which undefiled morality relies. The avijñapti that accompanies the path is called undefiled morality. This undefiled morality is produced by the primary elements of the place where the body is reborn. That is, if one is born in the desire realm and the undefiled becomes present, it is produced by the primary elements of the desire realm. Although this undefiled of desire arises relying on the six levels of the form realm, it is not produced relying on the primary elements of those levels, because undefiled phenomena do not fall within any realm. Moreover, because no primary elements are undefiled, nor can one speak of unconditioned primary elements, and because the undefiled arises based on the physical body, it is produced by the primary elements following the place of rebirth. And so on up to: if the body is born in the fourth dhyāna and the undefiled becomes present, it is produced only by the primary elements of that level; because it follows the place of rebirth, the meaning is analogous to what was stated before.
