'An undefiled [mind] is restricted to increasing': it excludes 'not increasing', which is why it is called 'restricted'. Because an undefiled mind is not associated with defilements, it is not called 'possessed of latent defilements' by virtue of the nature of companionship. It is called 'possessed of latent defilements' exclusively restricted to increasing: namely, because latent defilements take the undefiled mind as an object and those latent defilements have not been abandoned, it is called 'possessed of latent defilements'. The word 'unabandoned' conveys the meaning of increasing; therefore, it is exclusively restricted to increasing that it is called 'possessed of latent defilements'.
