"Different from this is the ultimate" means that what is different from such pots and water is called ultimate truth. For example, when blue color and the like are broken down to the subtle atom, the awareness of visible matter always remains; and when taste and the like are analyzed by wisdom down to the subtle atom, the awareness of taste always remains; and when the four aggregates, feeling and the rest, are analyzed by wisdom down to a single moment, the awareness of them always remains. Therefore such visible matter and so forth are called ultimate truth; this really exists, and so is called ultimate. Based on ultimate principle, visible matter and so forth are said to exist; this is real and not false, and is called ultimate truth. According to the Sautrāntika, all dharmas apprehended by undefiled wisdom and by the subsequent mundane correct wisdom are called ultimate truth; other than these, dharmas apprehended by other wisdoms are called conventional truth.
