「《百論》治外以閑邪者」下，第六通歎四論。前別嘆四論；從「尋斯四者」下，總嘆四論，明學之者有其深益。前別嘆四論，有二對：初內外一雙、次略廣相對。「流滯」者，學內教人壅滯佛教。今祛其壅滯使佛教宣流，故云流滯。師又云「決二壅，合兩教流。」二壅者，一小乘人學小乘迷小乘，故小教壅；二大乘人學大乘迷大乘，故大乘壅。今《中論》決斯二教之壅，使二教流也，故云「祛內以流滯」。閑邪者，閑有多訓，此中正宜以靜釋之。肇師云：「于時外道紛然競起」，今為防外道紛動，故須靜而息之。大智則理深而文博，十二門即文精而理詣也。

From "The Śata-śāstra cures external [heterodoxies] to ward off depravity" onward is sixth, general praise of the four treatises. First, it praises the four treatises individually; from "Examining these four" onward, it praises the four treatises collectively, clarifying that those who study them receive profound benefit. The initial individual praise of the four treatises contains two pairs: first, a pair of internal and external; next, a contrast between brief and extensive. "Flow and stagnation": students of the internal teaching obstruct and stagnate the Buddha's teaching. Now, dispelling their obstruction and stagnation allows the Buddha's teaching to spread and flow, hence "flow and stagnation". The master also says, "Unblocking two obstructions, bringing the two teachings to flow together." As for the two obstructions: first, Hīnayāna practitioners study the Hīnayāna and are deluded about the Hīnayāna, so the Hīnayāna teaching is obstructed; second, Mahāyāna practitioners study the Mahāyāna and are deluded about the Mahāyāna, so the Mahāyāna teaching is obstructed. Now the Madhyamaka-śāstra clears the obstructions of these two teachings, causing both teachings to flow; hence it says "dispelling internal [errors] to set the stagnant flowing". "Warding off depravity": "to ward off" (xian) has many glosses; here it should properly be explained as calming. Master Sengzhao said, "At that time, heterodox paths arose competitively in confusion"; now, to guard against the agitation of heterodox paths, one must calm and extinguish them. The Great Wisdom [Treatise] has profound principles and expansive text; the Twelve Gates has succinct text and reaches the principle.
