First, the eight negations clarify that the twelve links of dependent origination are neither arising nor ceasing. The Mahāparinirvāṇa-sūtra also says: 'The twelve links of dependent origination are fully endowed with the ten negations and endowed with the meanings of the five natures. Because the twelve links of dependent origination are neither arising nor ceasing and can give rise to contemplative wisdom, they are the Buddha-nature as the objective realm. Being able to produce the contemplation of non-arising and non-ceasing is the Buddha-nature as contemplative wisdom. When contemplative wisdom is fully clarified, it is called the Buddha-nature as the fruit of bodhi. The ultimate tranquility of all extremes such as annihilation and permanence is the Buddha-nature as the fruit-of-the-fruit of Great Nirvāṇa. However, the twelve links of dependent origination have never been either object or wisdom, nor cause nor fruit; this is the Buddha-nature as the middle way.' These five natures are not five separate entities; rather, the single, unarising and unceasing twelve links of dependent origination are fully endowed with all five kinds. Thus we know that the eight negations are endowed with the five natures.
