Seventh, these eight negations are the True Dharma. For example, although the Avataṃsaka-sūtra has seven locations and eight assemblies, its primary宗旨 is to clarify the True Dharma; thus it states: "The nature of the True Dharma is far removed from all paths of words; all destinies and non-destinies are entirely of the nature of tranquil cessation." The True Dharma is the root of the Avataṃsaka; therefore it subsumes the preceding causes and effects of the transformer and transformed, returning them to the True Dharma that is neither cause nor effect. From the True Dharma that is neither effect nor cause, functions such as cause and effect are further produced; therefore the True Dharma is the root. The True Dharma is itself the middle way, and the middle way is neither arising nor ceasing, neither annihilation nor permanence. Therefore, if the eight negations are established, the True Dharma is manifested; because the True Dharma is manifested, cause and effect are established; thus the sūtra of the seven locations is contained within the eight negations.
