The explanation says: the color revealing empty space and the color of distant space are identical in terms of substance, so they are spoken of together. In the Abhidharmasamuccaya, the color revealing empty space and the color of distant space are not the same. Why is this? Although their substance is one, they are distinguished by location, and therefore spoken of separately. That which appears in the sky above is called the color revealing empty space. That which appears nearby in a distant place below is called the color of distant space. Looking up and seeing the shadow of the blue lapis lazuli of Mount Sumeru and taking it to be empty space, then the color revealing empty space is provisionally established based on shadow-matter.
