真諦釋俱舍云：如雲障日成陰，餘色於中，猶顯現可見說為影，須彌障日成陰，餘色於中，隱不可見名闇。

Paramārtha's commentary on the Abhidharmakośa states: Just as clouds obstructing the sun produce shade, yet other colors within it remain apparent and visible—this is called shadow; when Mount Sumeru obstructs the sun to produce shade, and other colors within it are hidden and invisible—this is called darkness.
