In the text of the seventh item, this master divides it into two, hence he says "the last three." Now it is determined: the first operation is universally possessed by the eight consciousnesses; the second, third, and seventh are fully possessed by the mental consciousness and partially possessed by the other seven consciousnesses. The fourth operation is universally possessed by the six consciousnesses and partially possessed by the seventh and eighth. The fifth operation is fully possessed by the mental consciousness, partially possessed by the five consciousnesses, and absent in the seventh and eighth. Its sixth operation is universally possessed by the six consciousnesses and absent in the seventh and eighth. This is according to the coarse characteristics; if one distinguishes them in detail, it can be understood through commensurate contemplation.
