Although there is this explanation, now examining the *Nirvāṇa Sūtra*, there are no words 'desire and form'; that sūtra, explaining twenty-one pairs of disputations, states in its text: 'Some say there is an intermediate state (antarābhava), some say there is no intermediate state.' Following the text below to explain it, the general statement that having an intermediate state or not having an intermediate state both do not understand my intention means: why is that? It is present in the desire and form realms, but absent in the formless realm; it is not categorically present or absent, and therefore using it as evidence is invalid.
