Regarding the meaning and names of the five gotras, based on the five kinds explained in the Laṅkāvatāra-sūtra, there are no sentient beings without gotra who ultimately fail to achieve Buddhahood; by a distinct meaning it explains that bodhisattva icchantikas ultimately do not achieve Buddhahood. According to the five kinds explained in this treatise, those who are determinate [Śrāvakas or Pratyekabuddhas] and those without gotra ultimately do not achieve Buddhahood. The arguments established and refuted by various new and old masters are omitted and not recounted. For a detailed clarification of the meaning of intrinsically existing and newly perfumed seeds, one should refer to the Vijñaptimātratāsiddhi.
