Under the sixth point, explaining karmas ripening in the three times, regarding the statement, "Although other fruits arise, they must depend on their own seeds": Master Jing explains that a single fruit-substance arises to recompense two kinds of causes, conceptually divided into two fruits: that which recompenses karmic seeds is called the fruition of maturation (vipākaphala), and that which recompenses nominal seeds is called the fruit of uniform outflow (niṣyandaphala). Although with respect to that karma there is the sense of other fruits of maturation arising, they can only arise depending on their own nominal seeds as the proximate cause. Another says: Although other fruits of immeasurable lifetimes arise depending on their own seeds aside from this lifetime, at the exhaustion of the lifespan of this lifetime, the seeds that produced the fruit of this lifetime are called having already experienced their fruit; the seeds of self-substance for remaining lifetimes have not yet given their fruit, so they are not called having already experienced their fruit.
