Next is the second part, which separately distinguishes formation and destruction. Within this there are two parts: first, explaining destruction; later, from 'Having thus briefly explained that the world has already been destroyed, how does the world form?' onward, explaining formation. Within destruction, there are three divisions: first, fire; second, water; and third, wind. Within fire, there are two parts: first, the question; and second, the answer. The answer has three parts: first, explaining the twenty dwelling kalpas as the beginning of destruction; second, from 'After the final increase...' onward, directly explaining the twenty kalpas of destruction; third, from 'After the worlds have thus all been burned...' onward, explaining the empty kalpas. The subsequent text again has three parts: first, generally explaining the single increase and single decrease within the dwelling kalpas; second, from 'Furthermore, in these intermediate kalpas...' onward, explaining the decline caused by the small calamities during the decreasing kalpas, followed by gradual increase; and third, concluding the formation of the dwelling kalpas with 'Thus twenty decreases and twenty increases,' and so forth.
