刀災但云七日不言夜者，白日相見，殺害易成，夜中闇黑，殺害事少，略不說夜。有餘經言：由施眾生，一摶食故，不生飢餓劫中。由施眾僧，一可梨藥，不墮疫病劫中。由一日夜，持不殺戒，不墮刀兵劫中。

The calamity of weapons only mentions seven days and does not mention nights because during the day people see each other and killing is easy to accomplish, whereas in the dark of night killing happens less, so nights are omitted. Other sūtras say: 'By giving a single morsel of food to sentient beings, one will not be born in the kalpa of famine. By giving a single dose of harītakī medicine to the Saṅgha, one will not fall into the kalpa of epidemic disease. By upholding the precept of non-killing for a single day and night, one will not fall into the kalpa of warfare.'
