The latter two explanations hold that all five [divisions] are called stages. If one were to only say 'Yoga Stage', one would not know whose stage it is, so the name 'Master' is indicated; if one were to only say 'Master's Stage' without saying 'Yoga', one would not know again which master's stage it is; thus it is collectively called 'Stage of the Yoga Master' (Yogācārabhūmi). If one were to only say 'Yoga Master' without saying 'Stage', it would not be intended to explain merely the nominal master of yoga, but rather to explain the stages and teachings upon which that master relies, in order to make [practitioners] follow and cultivate them, accomplish that master, and realize those stages.
